Tips From Other Moms on Teaching Responsibility

  • Give your child a little freedom from a young age. Let them pick out their clothes once they can dress themselves. I match outfits together when I put clothes away so it makes it easier for them (and I know match). This gives them some control, and teaches the responsibility of getting ready in the morning.
  •  While doing chores, let them help from a young age. I know it takes a longer to get done, but it will pay off for both of you. Give them a rag to dust with you, teach them your techniques and soon they know how to dust alone and you will have one less chore. Let them help load the dishwasher, feed pet(s), water plants, unload the dryer and fold small towels or washcloths. This gives them a sense of power, and they learn at the same time.
  •  From the time my kids could walk, they were putting their dirty clothes in the hamper. This not only taught them to clean up after themselves but it's a HUGE help for a mom with a full time job and a family!  ~ From Tonya M.
