Date Day Mommy Guilt
I'm out with my husband for a much needed date day! We are at Fenway Park, the home of our favorite baseball team, The Boston Red Sox!
I'm having such a great time...but I feel so guilty for not spending this beautiful Saturday with our baby girl. I really only have the weekends to spend quality time with her. Then I feel guilty for not being completely present on our date. We don't have date nights that often and I was so excited about today. So, why am I feeling this way?
This must be the "mommy guilt" I recently read about on parenting.com. The article was entitled "Kiss Mommy Guilt Goodbye".
I guess it (mommy guilt) is completely normal! Many things such as yelling, having to work outside the home, even scheduling "me" time and date nights can spur this awful feeling on. According to this article, experts encourage tuning it out.
Ok. I'm going to try to tune it out - "Go Sox"!
Yet, one question: our daughter is already 3 -will I still feel this guilt when she's 10? Hope not.....romantic dinners won't be so romantic if I can't get my mind off our daughter. :) Luckily, my husband is so understanding.
Back to the game and our date!
Moms, if you have ever felt this way, I'd love to hear your comments!

I hate mommy guilt. I feel it even if I just go out to do errands on the weekend. My DS's are 12 and 3. Yes I feel just as guilty leaving my 12 yr old as my 3 yr old. I don't think it goes away until they abandon you when they hit there "teens".
ReplyDeleteYes, I have SUPER mommy guilt and most times it gets the best of me and my husband. However, generally it goes away after the first glass of wine :)
ReplyDeleteI agree that the "wine" helps with the mommy guilt. I feel it so badly sometimes that I am praying every prayer I know to make it go away LOL:) So, therefore "wine" is consumed and everyone is a lot more relaxed:)
